The Lot Pedra Dourada is part of Fazendas Dutra and is located in the green hills of the São João do Manhuaçu, Minas Gerais. Fazenda Dutra is a family-run farm owned and operated by Ednilson and Walter – The Dutra Brothers. They have been coffee producers all their lives.
Her father ‘Zeca’ Dutra saw the potential in the land despite the farm’s small size and applied his passion for coffee farming to expand and improve the farm ) in the early 1950’s. He started the farm with 1 hectare, buying a second and third hectare from the farm’s profits. Today the Dutra family grows over 500 acres of coffee. They produce 16.000 bags a year of which 6.000 are specialty coffee quality.
The brothers have been growing their operations year by year, and have won a number of national competitions and multiple awards for their coffee quality. They are on lists as one of the top 50 best growers of Brazil. They are the best example for specialty coffee in Brazil.
The secret of their success is passion, hard work and a continuous commitment to improving quality!
The brothers are passionate about the environment and looking for ways to minimize the environmental impact, like coffee straw as a fertilizer, recycle coffee waste, planted natural wind breakers and they carefully manage the waste water from the washed and semi washed processing to ensure they do not contaminate the local water supply.
Currently the farm is one of the most sustainable in Brazil and it is a member of BSCA (Brazil Specialty Coffee Association), Rainforest Alliance, UTZ, 4C Association and Certifica Minas!
